[R] Virtual Writer's Retreat

10 Days from Draft to Submission: A Course for Academics

You’ve done some amazing research, but nobody knows about it. Because it's sitting in a (virtual) drawer. Not advancing the field, not helping the people whose lives would be changed by the knowledge you made, not advancing your career.

Well, it’s time to get that article done.

2 hours a day. 4 days of prep. 10 days of writing. Hit submit.

Imagine the feeling of listing your article as “submitted.” At the end of the Virtual Writer’s Retreat, you’ll be able to do it.

It’s 80% done. You just need that final push. I created this program because I know what it's like to be sooooo close but not quite finished. Well here's your (supportive!) kick-in-the-pants: the Virtual Writer’s Retreat.

Starts Sunday, October 21, 2018!

It's time to tell your imposter syndrome to shut up already.

Here's what we'll do in the Virtual Writer's Retreat:

  • Daily Lessons & Assignments: Get daily assignments designed to break the revision down into smaller, manageable chunks--eliminating overwhelm and showing you a clear path to completion.
  • Facebook Group: Join others in the same boat as we work together with support and encouragement.
  • Accountability and Group Sharing: Experience accountability that will inspire you to move forward and keep procrastination and burn out at bay.
  • Facebook Live Q&As: Q&A, plus motivation and writing advice to keep you from getting stuck.

Frequently Asked Questions

If I don’t have a draft yet, is the Virtual Writer’s Retreat for me?
No. You should have a draft that you consider to be 80% complete (be honest with yourself!). The perfect example is a dissertation chapter that needs to be an article. It’s already written but needs strategic revision to become a publishable article.
When does the course start and finish?
The course starts on Sunday, October 21, 2018 and finishes Saturday, November 3, 2018.
I’m not sure if I can block off 2 hours a day for 14 days (4 days of prep and 10 days of writing). Can I do the Virtual Writer’s Retreat in less time?
Probably not. If it really took even less time to turn your almost-finished draft into an article you would have done it by now. To be successful you need to dedicate 2 hours of work per day to the program. I’ll teach you where you might find those two hours, guide you about how to use them, and hold you accountable in our Retreat’s private Facebook group. But you’ll need to commit to two hours per day.
Can anyone from any field of study benefit from the Virtual Writer’s Retreat?
Yes! My specialty is in the humanities and social sciences, and I generally publish qualitative studies in the field of education (my most recent article is Anthropology and Education Quarterly). The Retreat is designed to break your article writing/revision into manageable pieces. These will follow a very generic format (intro, abstract, lit review, methodology, data, results, conclusions), however, I’ll adapt the program as needed to the fields of study represented by the students. You’ll also get an accountability partner who I’ll pair you with according to field of study, so you’ll get good feedback even if you’re in a field that’s not my specialty.
What if I don't have Facebook?
Good question! You really must have Facebook to participate in this course. That's where the community and support magic will happen! We'll have a closed group, so you don't have to worry about privacy. It'll just be us. :)
How long do I have access to the course?
How does lifetime access sound? After enrolling, you have unlimited access to this course for as long as you like - across any and all devices you own.
What if I am unhappy with the course?
I would never want you to be unhappy! If you are unsatisfied with your purchase, contact us in the first 7 days and we will give you a full refund.
Do you guarantee that my paper will be published?
Absolutely not. If you dedicate the time and effort into the Virtual Writer’s Retreat (2 hours a day for 4 prep days and 10 writing days), you should have a finished, submittable version of your article by the last day. This in no way guarantees that your work will actually be published by that journal. That’s up to the editors and reviewers!
What if I have to travel during the Virtual Writer’s Retreat?
As long as you have internet access and 2 hours of time to dedicate, you can still participate and see results. The key is to plan ahead and be very strict about committing to the two hours.

This course is closed for enrollment.
